**Role Value Proposition** : MetLife’s largest strategic initiatives are critical to the realization of MetLife’s transformation objectives. These programs are characterized by large budgets, significant organizational and process change, multiple stakeholders, and above-average execution risk. In order to lead these complex and transformational programs, the organization needs full time program leaders with strategic thinking, gravitas, business acumen, demonstrated execution capabilities, and the ability to influence a wide range of stakeholders. Enterprise Program Management (EPM) Principals will oversee 3-5 large programs, exercising significant influence on the execution of these programs by providing direction to Engagement Managers (direct reports) and other stakeholders in partnership with Executive Sponsors and Steering Committees. Principals will advise on governance, methodology, tools utilization, and talent and capability development all in an effort to ensure successful program delivery.
The Principal of Corporate Programs is responsible for the management of enterprise and strategic business programs supporting Corporate Functions (Global Brand and Marketing, Financial Management Group, Human Resources, etc.) The incumbent is responsible for ensuring appropriate leadership, staffing, methodology and infrastructure is deployed in support of all Corporate Functions programs.
+ Lead structured meetings with Executive Sponsors and Business leaders to define program scope and translate strategies into defined business objectives and program goals
+ Oversee multiple Enterprise Strategic Programs, directing program leaders and advising stakeholders
+ Establish appropriate governance, processes, and tools to enable portfolio over-sight, risk management, dependency management, approvals, and monitoring of projects/programs within own portfolio
+ Build productive relationships and personal credibility with MetLife executives in corporate functions and regions, in a highly matrixed global environment
+ Develop advisory relationships with key stakeholders aligned to own portfolio, to improve internal capabilities, better understand current and future business challenges, and to build trust and commitment
+ Ensure appropriate financial and reporting processes are in place to provide transparent and frequent reporting on program value and risks
+ Provide senior program management representation at program governance meetings with executive and senior management
+ Ensure that support functions deploy appropriate resources in support of strategic programs
+ Model and coach all EPM team members toward GTO key behaviors and the realization of operational excellence practices within EPM
+ Create a high accountability / high performance culture
+ Recruit top talent for EPM from inside and outside the company
+ Assist with placement of top talent in EPM into MetLife leadership roles outside of EPM
+ Manage and coach Engagement Managers to higher levels of performance.
+ Sponsor projects to improve Enterprise Program Management’s Framework, tools and templates.
+ Anticipated travel up to 25%
**Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:**
+ 10-15+ years of leadership experience in financial services
+ Bachelor’s degree and related field experience required; advanced degree preferred
+ Management consulting and/or business-side (non-IT) program management experience required
+ Outstanding executive communication skills, written and oral
+ Strong strategic thinking and tactical execution capabilities; brings critical thinking and intellectual rigor
+ Able to work in and bring clarity to ambiguous, evolving environments
+ Personifies a high performance / high accountability mentality, demonstrated in large, (global) matrixed initiatives
+ Contributes to a culture of innovation, collaboration, and partnership with a willingness to proactively coach, facilitate, share knowledge, and be the role model and advocate for a changing organization
+ Inspirational leader with proven success directing, motivating and developing program staff (greater than 100+ direct and matrices reports)in an evolving environment
+ Demonstrable experience planning and managing a project portfolio of greater than $250M annual spend and running (successful) projects in $50-75MM+ range
+ Proven experience managing enterprise and strategic business programs supporting Corporate Functions (Global Brand and Marketing, Financial Management Group, Human Resources, etc.)
+ Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution and negotiation skills
+ Experience in both program management and P&L strongly preferred
+ Experience with large scale M&A integrations or divestitures preferred
