The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of production planning, scheduling, and supply tasks in direct support of depot maintenance programs such as the repair, overhaul, manufacture, and/or modification of complex weapon systems; weapon system end items such as aircraft, exchangeable, engines, missiles, and other major end items; and a variety of associated assets.
This is a formalized trainee position and must be filled at the entry grade level. The program provides opportunity for an employee to gain experience and training within a predetermined timeframe, allowing the employee a new career path. Employees taking a change-to-lower grade to enter the trainee position may be eligible for salary retention. To retain salary, trainee must sign a formalized training plan. This position provides promotion opportunity to the target grade position without further competition when selectee is eligible and recommended by management. Employee selected for this formal trainee position will be excluded from consideration for other positions up to and including the target grade level of their formalized training position.
THIS POSITION IS BEING FILLED AT THE GS-05 LEVEL WITH PROMOTION POTENTIAL TO THE GS-07 LEVEL. Incumbent may be non-competitively promoted to the next higher level after attainment of knowledge, skills, and abilities, meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. **SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE**: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level close to the work of this position that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform. Typically, we would find this experience in work within a field that is closely related. To be creditable, the specialized experience must have been equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04), pay band or equivalent. Specialized experience is described as: with minimal help in making decisions and analyzing issues, I perform a variety of production planning, scheduling and supply tasks in direct support of the maintenance programs such as the repair, overhaul, manufacturing, and/or modification of complex weapon systems such as aircrafts, exchangeable, and missiles. I complete my work independently within established timeframes. My work is reviewed for accuracy & conformance to procedures and special instructions. Objective is to gain experience to be able to fully perform the duties at the journeyman level. Attainment of Knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the next higher-level position is required before promotion to the next higher grade.
**OR EDUCATIONAL SUBSTITUTION**: Four years education post high school that was obtain in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. **OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION**: An equivalent combination of successfully completed, qualifying education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Specialized experience directly related to the work of the position may be used to meet the requirements of this position. Education in excess of 2 years above high school may be used to qualify applicants for the GS-05 level. NOTE: You must submit copies of your unofficial transcripts with your application if using education as a substitution of experience.
**FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS**: Applicants must have served at least 52 weeks at the GS-04 or higher grade (or equivalent in an alternate pay system) within the Federal Civil Service to be considered for referral. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)**: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of the production organization, and associated production methods and processes, labor, machinery, manpower, and material requirements.
2. Knowledge of the product to correlate and analyze a variety of routine production data and processes and prepare outlines for basic production schedules.
3. Knowledge of governing supply regulations, procedures, instructions, functions, operations, program requirements, and work methods.
4. Skill in data entry and utilizing automated systems.
5. Ability to schedule and monitor both planned and unplanned workloads.
**VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE**: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
**PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE**: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
**IF USING EDUCATION TO QUALIFY:**You **MUST**provide transcripts to support your educational claims. Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**: The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and climb in industrial facilities where it is necessary to bend, crouch, stoop, reach, and lift heavy items of 25 pounds and over with assistance. May also be required to perform these functions in obstructed areas. Note: This position requires a pre-employment physical.
**WORKING ENVIRONMENT**: The employee works in an office setting part of the time, but is also required to regularly visit production areas, which involve moderate risks, discomfort, and require safety precautions. Visits to industrial areas take place in all weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to strong odors, fumes from paint, fuels, or chemicals used in the work processes. Regular use of safety equipment is an occupational requirement.

The "certification" must be signed by, or by direction of, the adjutant, personnel officer, or commander of your unit or higher headquarters and must indicate when your terminal leave will begin (if applicable), your rank, dates of active duty service, the type of discharge and character of service (i.e. honorable). Further, under paragraph (h) of the rule, agencies are required to verify a qualifying separation from military service prior to appointment, through the DD-214 or other appropriate documentation.
